Looking to go on a trip?
I have been driving around the US for close to three years and have in some ways mastered the road trip vibes. Here I will break down the essentials to have a smooth ride.
FIRST!
Take a potty break before getting on the road. Nothing slows you down more than potty breaks. My goal is to only take a break for gas stops while on big road trips. Be sure to keep drinking liquids but start off on an empty bladder
SECOND!
Snacks! You always need some munchies to keep you going. My favorite things to have is Cheese-It crackers, grapes, berries, plain cereal, chips, etc. Pretty much anything you can fit into your hand and put into your mouth without having to look at it or spill it is best. Having these items within arms reach it also essential! It's the most essential part actually because that would mean you would have to have a co-pilot or make a stop every time you want to munch!
THIRD!
Liquids! Staying hydrated is one of the key elements to having a good drive. I get raging headaches from driving and I have found that it can come from a lack of hydration. I keep a cooler in between my driver and passenger seats stocked with my favorite beverages. Also whenever I need to make a gas break I fill up my water bottle. Steady flow in, steady flow out.
FOURTH!
Entertainment for your ears! Podcasts, books on tape, music, & long phone calls are all amazing ways to pass long trips. I have used all of them to get myself through some of the most boring landscapes. Funny podcasts are probably my favorite, specifically Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me by NPR. Be sure to set yourself up before you head out so you can have a hands free atmosphere.
FIFTH!
Be aware of your surroundings. If you are on a mission you want to be attentive to your GPS giving you new routes to go down to avoid traffic. But if you are wanting to explore some new places read those road signs and you could find your next insta-selfie :)
